Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in your joint fluid. A gel injection tops it up, helping the knee move more smoothly and absorb load. It usually works more gradually than a steroid but can last around six months or more, which makes it well suited to ongoing, mechanical arthritis pain and stiffness rather than an acute flare.
